REPTILES - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Activity: In the Grade R classroom, I would give the learners picture games where can match the correct reptiles to the correct colours and patterns. This picture game will allow the students to spark their curiosity and groupwork. There will be a magnifying glass allowing the learners to observe and analyze the textures and colours of the reptiles. By allowing them to match the correct pictures this allows them to have an understanding of the concept being taught. I will enhance their observation and classification skills and develop their critical thinking (Anon., 2024).
  - - - Activity: As a teacher I will implement a natural safari in the classroom. I will use a theme table and I will encourage the learners to explore the different types of reptiles by giving them different reptile cards, coloured pencils and paper. They are expected to draw the different animals they see in the reptile cards. It's up to the learners to decorate their drawings on what they see. They can draw their favorite reptile that they find interesting. I will encourage them to be creative when making their drawings. This activity allows the learners to observe and communicate as a group (Anon., 2024).
- - - - Activity: As a teacher, I will set out a variety of materials such as recycled materials or other materials placed on the theme table so that the learners can make their own reptile homes. They can make their reptile homes on a reptile they want has a pet or their reptile. They will have an opportunity to construct and create their own reptile homes. For example, a lizard home by using plastic containers. This will allow them to learn explore their options and make their homes colourful as possible. This activity will encourage the learners to investigate a solution when making their homes (Anon., 2024).
  - - - Activity: For this lesson, I will take the learners for a reptile expedition. Once the leaners are back in the classroom, I will ask them what they observed from the different type of homes the reptile lives in. Following that, I will have a class discussion where the learners make a reptile home for the snake that they have seen during the expedition. This will a whole class lesson since it requires groupwork therefore, the learners and the teacher work together and construct a snake home using different materials in the classroom (Anon., 2024).
- - - - There are many reptiles that live in South Africa such as the African rock python which is the largest snake in Africa. The African rock python is found over the Saharan Africa also the Southern Africa. The second reptile is the well-known black mamba. It is found in the Northern regions of Southern Africa. The leopard toroise is found within South Africa in areas such as Southwestern Cape. The Flap-neck chameleon lives in South Africa in areas such as Kwa-Zulu Natal. There are many reptiles that live in different places in South Africa (Harpe, 2024).
        
        Activity: For this lesson, I will include pictures, posters and books of the different places the reptiles are found in South Africa. The pictures and book will show the learners the Geography of the different reptiles such as where they come from. The learners are encouraged to observe and look at the different names of the places that reptiles originate from. They can communicate and draw their favorite place they see on the pictures or posters. A variety of paper and crayons will be available to the learners placed on the theme table (Anon., 2024).
    - - Reptiles originate in fresh water or marine habitats. Certain reptiles such as turtles live in the water while others live on dry land. Lizards on the other hand live in habitats such as the rainforests or trees. Another example can be a snake, they live in different ranges of habitats such as the desert or wetlands. Crocodilians live in freshwater, salt water or swarms. There are other reptiles that live on land such as the desert, jungle, forest or even in our own backyard. Reptiles live everywhere depending on their specific habitat (LibreTexts, n.d).
        
        Activity: In the Grade R classroom, I allow the learners to play with play dough on my theme table. The theme table will consist of the different reptile habitats where the learners can role play by using the sensory bin. The background will be like a reptile's habitat, and I will include plastic reptiles, labels of the animals, plastic trees, plants so that it will look realistic for the learners to explore and communicate with each other. This activity is a hands-on activity, and it will allow them to develop the process skills of communication and identify the different habitats that reptiles live in (Anon., 2024).
