New York State Education
Grades K-5 set the foundation for: reading, writing, listening, speaking, math, science, social studies, health, physical education, the arts.
Children must attend school from age 6 until the end of the school year in which they turns 17.
children enter kindergarten in September of the calendar year they turn five.
New York City provides free pre-kindergarten for all children who are 4 years old on or before December 1st of the year in which they would begin pre-kindergarten.

Kindergarten forms the basic building blocks of literacy and arithmetic.
NYC students can apply for kindergarten in the year they turn five.
The school year
They take some days off that aren't public holidays: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Election Day, Diwali, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Lunar New Year, Good Friday, Eid al-Fitr, Passover (first two days), and Eid al-Adha.
September- June school year
Free special education services are available for three- and four-year-old students with disabilities or delays in development that affect learning.
