Aeneid propaganda
Jupiter's prophecy
He promises her taht she will "take great hearted Aeneas up to the stairs of heaven". The epic has many parrells and comparisons between Aug and Aeneas so such high praise/fortune of Aeneas would reflect/ mirrror Aug e.g. divine heritage and support e.g. Carmen seculares.
He tells Venus that he "imposes no limit of time or place upon them", by talking of the Romans and their empire in such a grand and powerful way Virgil is effectively promoting Rome and Aug. He again promtes the em[ire by declaring he has "given them an empire that knows no end" this reflects to the immense size and power of the empire
Jupiter's prophecy is in book one and it starts by introducing Aeneas and the
"beginning of the high walls of Rome" Venus goes to her farther Jupiter " her skinning eyes brimming with tears" in concern for her son Aeneas, to which Jupiter repies with a prophetic speech aimed to comfort Venus' worries about lavium and Aeneas. He confirms that she "will see Lavinium and its promised walls". Prophecy's from the gods were taken as truth and had a heavy influence in Rome, so Zeus' words had a great importance/ effects.

Zeus claims even "angry Juno will join him in cherishing the people of Rome" this refers to the divine support that blesses both Rome and Aug. Zeus says "it had been decreed that they (romans) are rulers of the world". such high praise of Rome and her power is seen in other propaganda and refers to the ever expanding empire and the military strength needed to conquer and occupy such provinces e.g. Egypt and Gaul

zeus talks then references Augs' ancestors from Ascanious who will "build a city with powerful fortifications and the race of Hector who will rule for 300 long years" ,then he talks of Romulus "receiving the people and building walls of mars". Virgil then adds direct Augustian propaganda by introducing Romulus' people " the Romans".
Zeus says that "from noble stoke will be born a Trojan Caesar who will bind his fame to the stars", this describes JC whom Venus " will receive in the sky laden will spoils of the east and how he will be called upon in prayer" , this highlighting the importance of the defied JC and Aug as divi fillius.
Jupiter then refers to Aeneas and the surviving Trojan military prowess "he will wage a great war and crush it fierce tribes" ( Italians). Military success was highly valued in Roman society and Aug used this proto Roma trait in lots of propaganda eg. prima portia staue, A Toast To Actium

Propaganda played a significant role in roman politics and Augustus used it to gain the favour of the populus e.g. res gestae, pax coin, forum
Aeneas was a popular hero known to all Augustian Rome, so through the parrells Virgil creates between Aeneas and Aug, the readers would see this as a positive reflection upon Aug.

book 8- Venus presents Aeneas with the shield showing the events of Rome's future including the battle battle of Actium
book 10 - Jupiter says it was forbidden for Italy to fight the Trojans ( propaganda against civil war)
