In Act 1 / Scene 2, when we meet Othello, we meet an impressive figure who is open, and sincere, has natural authority, and cool headedness. Although Othello (unlike most of Shakespeare's tragic heroes) is not a monarch nor an aspiring monarch nor a displaced prince, he is still a worthy figure.
Monarchs in Shakespeare's writings: King Lear - Monarch, Macbeth - Aspiring Monarch, Hamlet - Displaced Prince.
Othello is a descendant of a royal line of kings, and has been an impressive military commander.
