Should HoL be abolished
NO:
-
does not need democratic legitimacy as it is not really a legislative chamber, instead it performs its scrutinising role well
filled with experts e.g. Lord Sugars scrutiny of Brexit has weight to it as he is an expert of business :
-
the Lords has no reason to compete with commons so there is a maintenance of stability, unlike in the US where there can often be gridlock
YES:
it is unrepresentative- average age is 70, and females make up only 28%- only the CofE is represented 26 in the Lords

The HoL is weak: Parliament Act 1911 removed veto of money bills, and made it so they could only delay bills for 2 years. Parliament Act 1949 reduced this to 1 year
Parliament can ignore the Lords easily through a majority vote- as seen in the ping pong over Safety of Rwanda Bill 2023 as the Lords eventually gave way to the bill
