Respiratory System - Coggle Diagram
Respiratory System
Lungs
Pleura membrane (visceral) covers surface of lungs. Parietal covers inside of chest, separated by pleural fluid.
-
-
Gas Exchange= Net flow of oxygen to pass from airways to blood and carbon dioxide from blood to airways
-
Respiratory Diseases
Emphysema
Long-term exposure top irritable particles such as tobacco smoke, pollution and dust
Damage alveoli which lose elasticity and replaced with fibrous tissue, reduces surface area. Lungs are constantly inhaled and breathing becomes voluntary
-
Lung Cancer
-
Asbestos, pollutants, tobacco smoking
-
Lung Infections
Pnuemonia
Caused by bacteria, virus or fungi
Inflammation causes secretion of fluid into alveoli which reduces the amount of air they can contain.
-
Tuberculosis
Infection caused by bacterium, Mycobacterium tuberculosis
-
Asthma
-
Respiratory infections, cigarette smoke, dust, pollutants and animals
Reduced volume going in and out of lungs, impairs gas exchange and blood does not carry usual amount of oxygen.
Nose, pharynx, larynx
Nose
Nasal cavity filled with mucous membranes to arm and humidify air, trap debris from lungs
Pharynx
Tube from naval cavity to oesophagus, carries air to trachea
During inhalation, epiglottis covers oesophagus, guiding it to trachea
During swallowing, epiglottis covers trachea, guiding to oesophagus
-
Trachea
-
-
Epithelial lining produces mucus, trapping debris from lungs
-
-
Bronchi
Primary, secondary, tertiary divisions
