        the worker becomes little more than machine, just one cog in a giant system. dehumanising the worker who spends most of their life doing some unfulfilling job
        
        here the worker is alienated from the product. there is no link to the product. the worker might never see the finished product. and so work becomes repetitive and dull
      - explotación by factory owners
        
        labour becomes like any other commodity: one that can be replaced by cheaper labour
        
        this results in exploitation as the workers only options are no work (and so no money to live) or to work for a very low wage
        
        factory owner removed from his worker, comes to see the workers mere parts; a means to an end

        so a worker may be spinning cotton, then dyed by someone else, then cut up by someone els and then stitched by another person
        
        in a factory/mill, a worker might only focus on one particular part of the process, with other people focusing on other aspects

        a Marxist analysis would argue this exploitation continues with a globalised economy
        
        the owners constantly seek cheaper labour to produce their products eg moving production to a country with the lowest wages
      - views on industrialisation
        
        as he was alive at the time of the Industrial Revolution, he noticed a paradoxical feature of the industrial world that was emerging: as humans gained more control over the world, they felt more out of control in that world - for M, this was because workers were being alienated from the product of their labour
        
        ideas were important foundations for the development of socialism and communism
- - - - must act to change the situation (orthopraxis) and brung poverty and injustice to an end, not just by providing for the poor, but by challenging the societal structures that cause poverty
      - so LT argues christians must needs of the poor > needs of others
    - - the right action > right thinking/belief
      - in this way, LT argues that acting justly to help the poor is key priority sort Christians
    - - other examples of this idea in the Gospel are found in:
        
        the Beatitudes - 'blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth' - Matthew
        
        JC quoting Isaiah - 'the spirit of the lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor'
        
        the Song of Mary - 'he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away' - Luke
    - - but LT argues that theology should begin with the reality of peoples lives and seeking to act justly. so orthopraxy comes first and from this orthodoxy will emerge
      - traditional model is to be trained in official church teachings and then translate this into action (orthodoxy leading to orthopraxy)
    - - this idea is important because it helps to LT to combat the charge that it relies too heavily on an atheistic analysis (Marxism)
      - 'whatever you did for one of the least of these brother and sisters of mine, you did for me'
