Induction
For new workers
Can be on or off the job training
Introduces the worker to their new job
Get to know them
Makes them feel welcome
Get to know the place of work
They learn what expected of them
They learn about the culture of the business
It may help them work in safely
They may learn skills relevant job
On and off training
On the job training
Occurs at the job. They do the job and learn how it all works whiles doing it.
Advantages
It is specific to the individual and the business
It saves money from cost of travel
The worker does work while learning
The business can exactly teach the person about what to do
Disadvantages
The work does as the learner starts to train may not be a good enough quality
The trainer may be good at their job but not as training others how to do it
The worker may learn only how to do the work in the way the business does it
The worker may not obtain a qualification at the result of these trainings
Its not easy to train a group of trainees
Off the job training
Occurs away from the job. It may still be at the place of work or the employee may be sent elsewhere for training
Advantages
Training is often given by experts
Trainee may be motivated by a day away from work
A worker can feel valued because the business is paying for the training
Some types of training are better taught by experts
Disadvantages
It can be expensive
The business loses output while the worker is away from work
Improving a worker's skill may make it possible for them to get work in another business
