How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware and online - in this project
Online
Google
I used google to get a deeper understanding of magazines for my research. I also used google to find more about fitness magazines, which is the genre of my magazine.
Blogger
I used this app to upload all my blogs. This app was easy to use and caused me no issues. Doing this has allowed me to track my journey of creating my magazine, starting from researching the history of magazines, to uploading my final magazine entries.
Voice Memos
Voice memos is a simple app on my iPhone which allows me to easily record audio. I used voice memos to create a 'podcast episode' for my first Critical Question 'how does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues'. I found that this was a creative way to present information.
Coggle
Coggle is a completely new app to me and I have only used it to present this Critical Question. I find this app is easy to use and is great for presenting information that is easy to read.
Canva
I used Canva to present my research about magazines which worked very well. I also used Canva to create my advert page, front cover, contents page and double page spread, along with the use of software such as photoshop.
Prezi
Prezi is a platform that allows you to present your information and is fairly easy to understand and use. I used Prezi a couple of times as I find it a good way to present information if you have a lot of content to cover. I recently used Prezi for my second Critical Question 'how does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text'. For this question I found this app worked really well.
Youtube
I used Youtube mainly to research more about how my Nikon camera works which was really useful. I also used this app to learn how to use Photoshop as I had not used it before.

Hardware
iPhone 11
I used my iPhone 11 for my initial photo taking at the start of the year but soon found that using a professional camera produced a better image.
Microsoft HP laptop
I used my laptop to create my pages on Canva, edit photos on Photoshop, upload blogs and research. I have had no issues completing all my work on my laptop and it has worked well.
Nikon D3400 camera
This camera was a big step up from my iPhone however I got to understand it quickly. The shots were better and I was able to focus the camera more for a cleaner shot. Things I had to consider when using this camera was to make sure the lens wasn't scratched or dusty. For all my photos, I made sure the flash was turned off as I had created lighting elsewhere, for example from studio lights.
-
White screen
The white screen was very useful to me as it worked as a white mise en scene for my front cover main image. I also found that a white screen allowed me to use studio lights to create shadowing and definition on the model better than if there was no white screen.
-
Light box
I used a lightbox for the photography of food for my double page spread. The lightbox was easy to use and made my photos look bright, clear and professional.
-
Studio lights
I used studio lights for the photography of my main front cover image. The use of studio lights allowed me to create shadowing and added definition on the model, adding overall realism.
Software
Remove.bg
Remove.bg was an unfamiliar software to me, however I learnt how to use it very quickly. I used Remove.bg to remove the background of the images I took of foods. This worked very well and lead to the photos looking very professional and clean.
Photos app
I used the photos app for my initial photography and editing in September and October. I found the photos were of a decent standard, however the editing software mainly relied on filters and the photos ended up looking very obviously edited.
Photoshop
Photoshop, although it took me some time to research how to use the software, was my favourite editing software as it allowed me to edit my photos professionally. I was able to remove creases in the white screen and make the model on my magazine front cover more tanned.
