Consequences of climate change
Lack of rainfall leads to drought which leads to crop failure because of less moisture and soil fertility.
Social - cost of living increases; food prices rise
Environmental - Extinction of some species in the Amazon rainforest. Food shortages for some species.
Drought makes it too dry to farm, leading to crop failure and water insecurity. Plants not coping with increased heat.
Economic - food prices increase
Environmental - Damages biodiversity. Dry areas can lead to wildfires which also harms biodiversity.
Social - leads to flooding which damages housing and developed areas. Food prices increase. Increased drought causes starvation and death
Plants grow with greater rise due to increased levels of carbon dioxide and heat.
Economic - increases yield
Social - more income for farmers
Environmental - habitat loss due to extensive farming
Extreme weather
Increased risk of flooding and more tropical storms
Social - damages housing and developed areas
Economic - People not being able to travel due to damaged roads. Prevents transportation of goods & services
Environmental - habitat loss/destruction, biodiversity is harmed and destroyed
Sea level rise: changes water quality
Social - reduces fishing which can lead to loss of income and starvation
Economic - fishing is the main source of income for some, so no fish damages the economy and there will be a lack of jobs
Environmental - water becomes more acidic leading to extinction of some species and damage to marine life
Ice begins to melt and polar regions warm
Environmental - Polar wildlife becomes rarer, with polar bears and penguins diminishing in number. Other species move around which is detrimental to ecosystems.
Social - mosquitoes can move to other countries which is harming to humans and it can spread malaria.
