neck/arm - sturdy, upright portion that supports the prism housing and lenses
revolving nosepiece - movable structure at lower part of prism housing to which objective lenses are attached
-
-
-
stage clamps - apparatus used to move the slide around the stage to observe different parts of the material
mechanical stage adjustment knobs - under the stage. moves the slide left/right and forward/backward
-
-
course adjustment knob - innermost and larger of the knobs at the base of the stage complex. used to raise and lower the stage in large amounts

-
plastids - organelles that have a double membrane with inner stromal fluid in which various metabolism occurs including synthesis, storage, and export of lipids, amino acids, sugars, iron, and pigments.
-
male antheridiophore - contains antheridia in which mitosis occurs to produce sperm. (Umbrella with ballons on top)
-
sporophyte - the diploid multicellular stage that create spores. Independently living and most noticeable (when with capsule, looks like okra)
gametophyte - gamete producing haploid phase that creates the zygote. (the double leaves with strings)
parenchyma - generally large cells with a well-developed central vacuole used for storage often of water and food.
-
-
-
sieve tube elements - modified for bulk transport of photosynthate from source (leaf) to sink (developing fruit)
-
vascular cambium - a layer of undifferentiated, meristematic cells between the xylem and phloem

processes
photosynthesis - the process whereby almost all energy to drive the biosphere derives, or is created.
fluorescence - occurs when excited electrons from the photosystem reaction centers are not picked up by electron carriers.
