The binge eating and inappropriate compensatory behaviors both occur, on average, at least 1x/week for 3 months.

How common is it?
The average age of onset for bulimia is eighteen, with an overall prevalence of 0.3%. Broken down by gender, bulimia develops in 1.5% of women and 0.5% of men, making it five times more common to develop in women.
bulimia in sexual minority adults is 1.3%, which is higher compared to cisgender heterosexual adults.
