How common it is:
This disorder is the most common in the U.S. It affects people of all racial + ethnic groups. Approximately, 1.25 percent of adult women + 0.42 percent of adult men have this disorder. About 1.6 percent of teens ages 13-18 years old are also affected. The average age when this disorder first occurs is age 25. Nearly 2/3 of people who meet the criteria for this disorder experience the episodes of this disorder for about 1 year or longer.
