Censorship
This was put in place because Hitler believed that if people were going to live Nazi lives, they had to get the correct message
Jospeh Goebbels was responsible of this
Forms of censorship
Newspapers were strictly controls, editors and journalists became part of the Reich press chamber, and all newspapers that were opposing the Nazis were shut down
Radio programmes were strictly controlled. Every radio was bought under the Reich radio company. There were no internatioanl radio broadcasts available
Books with un-german views were burnt, and never published again. Authors that opposed the German views were banned from ever publishing
Artists of every form were forced to join the Reich chamber of commerce. If their work was deemed as unsuitable by Goebbels they would be kicked out and out of jobs
Various forms of art were banned:
A. Modern art
B. Jazz was banned in Germany because it was seen as black music
Propaganda
The Nazis used censorship to keep Germans from getting the wrong ideas
They used propaganda in order to offer the Germans the right idea
The four main ideas presented in all propaganda made were
How supreme the Aryan race compared to other races
The work being done to fight off the communists in Germany
The different roles of Men and women in Germany
All citizens were to suffer for the good of Germany
While Hitler persisted with the importance as posters as the main form of propaganda, Goebbels insisted that propaganda should be mroe subtle, so that people wouldn't feel like they were being brainwashed
Newspapers were used to plant micropropaganda through fake storeis that made the Nazis look good
Hitler ensured that the radio was cheap and easy to use, because a lot of Nazi messages were transmitted this way.
Factories, bars, restaurants etc. were forced to have a radio system installed, that would display powerful Nazi messages constantly
Hitler put in place lots of parades and rallies, which felt powerful and engaging to the German population
Art was used as propaganda. For example, There were films created based on the "proud Nazi nation". Classical music was used, along with aryan paitongs which displayed the power of the Nazis
Hitler used the 1936 Olympic games, held in Berlin, to present the power of Nazi Germany, through large rallies and displays of large swastika flags.
