        seceded back the states separate to the Union
  - - - They began a plan of weakening of the Democrat party in the South
        
        It was impulsed by Abraham Lincoln in 1863
        
        Plans worked after his assassination :
        
        It required, according to Lincoln, 10% of a state´s approval to be able to create the government
        
        Implemented later by Andrew Johnson
        
        However, it was very permissive with Confederate states
        
        Because of this, Johnson was repudiated by Northern radicals
        
        It lead to the Union´s Congress creating the "Freedmen's Bureau" and the Civil Rights Bill
        
        He apologised with Southern white population for Lincoln´s abrupts, but denied them access to slavery
        
        Some republicans believe it didn't work because it should have been accompanied by Southern states acoplation
        
        It was to create new governments in the Southern states, gain support and then abolish slavery
        
        On the Democrat states they had control of
    - - They became insistent on not to couple with the Union
        
        All Confederate states reacted negatively to Lincoln´s attempt of support in the new governments for abolishing slavery
        
        Later, they took advantage of Andrew Johnson´s compassion to create the Black Codes
        
        Black codes: Limited Freedmen's economic liberty and tried to claim back the plantation discipline.
        
        The African-American communities in there resisted to this measures
        
        They also undermined Johnson´s support to abolish racial differencies
        
        The Congress (due to insurrection of Confederate states) took action
        
        This was due to their supremacist beliefs
        
        White Southerners thought they were being privatized of their rights
- - - - Destruction of the southern agricultural economy based on slavery and cotton plantations
        
        Forced to change the way of their principal economic activity
      - Massive investment to repair the damage
        
        By the destruction of infrastructure like railroads, roads, bridges and cities due to war
      - Loss of manpower
    - - Large population decline
        
        18% of the men in the South died after the war
        
        Of the 3% of the total U.S. population that died after the war, 2% were people of Confederates.
      - Abolition of slavery
        
        Now approximately 4 million of slaves were free
      - The new discriminatory “black codes”
        
        These were laws that went from segregation in different places to prohibition from practicing a profession.
      - Increased violence and racism by white groups
      - Migration of poor south families to the west in search of new opportunities.
    - - Confederacy broken up and forced reincorporation to the southern states into the Union.
      - Abolition of slavery and gave citizenship and voting rights to black people
      - Conflict and resistance by Southern states to the new policies
