Bulimia Nervosa
Symptoms
- Binge eating by eating large amounts of food in a small amount of time, often feeling a lack of control over eating during these episodes.
- Behaviors such as self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives, fasting, or excessive exercise to compensate for the binge eating episodes.
- Concerns about body shape and weight and/or an intense fear of gaining weight despite being normal weight or skinny.
- Consistant purging can lead to dental problems such as tooth decay and sensitivity to hot or cold foods.
- Physical symptoms: Swollen salivary glands, sore throat, acid reflux, gastrointestinal issues, and electrolyte imbalances that can lead to irregular heartbeats.

- Psychotherapy: helps you change negative thought patterns and behaviors related to food and body image.
- Nutritional counseling: working with a registered dietitian helps establish healthy eating patterns.
- Medication: Antidepressants may be prescribed to manage symptoms of depression or anxiety that often exist along with bulimia nervosa.
