A. Businesses hated communism because it was an ideology that promised that everyone is society is equal
B. This would mean that businesses would public instead of private
Businesses also started to support Hitler because the previous party that supported anti-communism, the National Party, had been in decline. Due to this businessmen favoured Hitler as an alternative
The role of the SA
Hitler's private army, the SA, was stronger than the communist private army. Simply due to this fact, Hitler's appeal was even stronger due to the SA.
Ways in which the SA strenghtened the German's nation's view of Hitler
In 1930, the SA had 400,000 members, which helped Hitler to appear as strong during Nazi rallies
The SA used strobing lights and symbols of power such as guns, swords and flags during rallies.
The SA frequently disturbed meetings of opposing parties, slowing those parties down, making Hitler appear as superior
During the 1930-32 elections, the SA used methods of intimidation in order to pressure voters to pick the Nazi party
Nazi election propaganda
The propaganda from the Nazi party was quickly changed if it didn't appeal to people
The Nazis owned 8 different newspapers. Each paper displayed different ideas so they could be used for a particular audience
Huge rallies were held to present the discipline of the party
Posters were designed for specific audiences, and placed in areas containing only that audience.
1932 elections
The Fall of Bruning
In July 1932, the Nazis were the biggest party in the Reichstag, with 230 seats (37% of votes)
Hitler used this populairty in order to run for president in the 1932 elections
He was beaten by Hindenburg though, who thus rermained president
Then, in the same year, Heinrich Bruning tried to use a a decree in order to ban the SS and the SA
A. He saw how close Hitler is to getting power and wanted to slow him down
B. He wanted to stop the political unrest that was happening in Germany due to the armies
However, Kurt von Schleicer persuaded Hindenburg to sack Bruning, which he did
Franz Von Papen
After he was responsible for Bruning's fall, Von schleicer was prepared to take control is Germany
So, he decided that he should make Franz von papen the leader of the new government
However, Von Papen's coalition governmnent was losing votes while the Nazi party's votes were still increasing
Due to this, Hitler asked Hindenburg to become chancellor instead
Hindenburg refused to do this because he hated HItler
Von schleicer and Hindenburg
Instead of appointing Hitler as chancellor, Hindeburg appointed Von Schleicer instead
Since von schleicer wanted even more control, he pleaded HIndenburg to give him special power in the government, along with suspending the Nazi and coalition government from the Reichstag
He reasoned this request by saying how Hitler and von papen were leading a conspirancy onto Hindenburg
This wasn't true, and Von schleicer's lie was revealed by the Reichstag
Von schelicer lost all support of the government, and was demoted as chancellor. Hindenburg had to give in and make Hitler as chancellor
