Wrote "The Arte of Rhetorique" In the 16th Century. He called against some of the following practices

Aitchison criticised these as "Artificial rules". They do not exist because they make communication easier. An artificial rule would. be something a child may struggle with, because it is unintuitive
A natural rule might be the SVO syntax. Useful, because English is an Analytical English
