Social/Cultural Issues
Plenty of people think space exploration is
pointless and a waste of time and money. They also think breaking milestones and records are unrealistic goals with.
Meanwhile, others think space expeditions and attempts to break such records would instead give out poor outcomes by triggering tragic, non-survivable disasters. In 1967, Soviet cosmonaut Komarov died when his spacecraft exhibited technical issues leading to a high-velocity fall without parachute deployment. With his remains disintegrated into charred, unrecognizable lumps.
Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986 and Columbia disasters in 2003 which had claimed a total of 14 civilians eventually severed the public confidence in commercial space travel, contributing to Space Shuttle's removal from service not long after. Consequently, substitutes on commercial space travel had to be sought.
Background History
Space exploration was first documented by Assyro-Babylonians, consisting of systematic astronomical observations dating back to 1000 BCE.
The first people to walk on the moon were Armstrong, Collins, and Aldrin in 1969
Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space.
Space Age, the period encompassing the activities related to space, began with the launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957.
During the Cold War, there had been a fierce competition between the US and the Soviet Union in breaking records
To meet the goals of breaking space-related records, the US created NASA and the USSR created Kosmicheskaya programma SSSR
Positives & Negatives
Positives
The pursuit of space exploration allows for a greater understanding of the physics that govern the universe
Exploration in space allows for search for natural resources that are depleting on Earth
The search of habitable exoplanets allow for a destination for future colonization of by the human race to overcome overpopulation.
Exploring space reveals the beauty and diversity that nature contains.
Negatives
There is a focus on exploring space instead of
saving the earth
Cost for space exploration is expensive

Social cultural issues between international disputes played a role in the development of space exploration, such as the cold war.
