Dutch explorers :1606 and over the 17th century . Named the country "New Holland" but didn't settle there.

Aborigines : arrived 50,000 years ago . Settled first along the coasts then expanded towards the centre creating their songlines.
Captain Philips with 11 ships full of convicts landed in Sydney Cove where he established the first penal colony on 26th January 1788.
