THREATS TO HVII, how did he deal with it, how did he deal with it, how did…
-
how did he deal with it
Imprisoned in the Tower of London 1485, aged 10 then beheaded for alleged conspiracy with Perkin Warbeck (after trying to escape during the Cornish rebellion)
how did he deal with it
At first, HVII Constantly watched John de la Pole to see if he would be a greater threat- Henry limited his power by taking land
When his threat increased (Earl of Lincolns involvement in Lambert Simnel rebellion)- Henry killed him at the Battle of Stoke Feild 1487
how did he deal with it
Lambert impersonated Earl of Warrick, he was crowned King in Ireland 1487--> Henry praded the real Earl of Warrick around London
With the foreign support of Margret of Burgundy (and threat of invasion) tjhreat increased
Henry won at the Battle of Stoke Feild June 1487- Earl of Lincoln was killed
Support for Lambert Simnel ended- The battle showed that HVII had popular support
how did he deal with it
Edmund lived in exile, under the protection of Marget of Burgundy. He was imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1506 when he returned. He was then executed in 1513, under HVIII.
Richard was exiled until his death in 1525, fighting for France in the Battle of Pavia
how did he deal with it
How Henry treated other threats, particularly the nobels, and ending support for pretenders meant that many of the Yorkist supporters where controled
how did he deal with it
Perkin Warbeck claimed to be Richard Duke of York, who had been imprisoned in the Tower of London- this started in Ireland, he fled to Margaret of Burgundy's court where he was trained to be a Yorkists prince, this made him gain english support
in 1495 he attempted to land in England but quickly defeated so he fled to Scotland (where he was offered an aristocratic marriage)
He then tried to invade in 1597 with a small Scottish army- which led to the Truce of Ayton
At first Henry treated Perkin Warbeck leniently but during the Cornish rebllion he tried to escape, He was then executed in 1499, (along with the Earl of Warrick)
how did he deal with it
Henry was paranoid of the nobility trying to overthrow him (link to weak claim to the throne) So he limited their power by:
-Acts of attainder: could sentence them without a trail, allowed HVII to take any of their land/money
-Bonds and Recognisances: payment made as a garantee of good behaviour
