positive ions (cations)
positive ions are usually created when an atom or molecule loses electrons
the metal in group one and group two easily lose electrons to become positively charged ions
When atoms form ions, they try to fill up or empty their outer electron shell. also in ionic bonding a metal atom transfers electrons to a non metal atom.
negative ions--Ions with a negative charge are called anions.Common examples include sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, and bicarbonate.
Nobel gases already have a full outer shell.noble gases are nonreactive and do not always form ionic bonds with other elements.
negative ions--Ions with a negative charge are called anions.Common examples include sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, and bicarbonate.

negative ions are usually created when an atom or molecule gains it electrons.
In group 7 the non metals are more likely to gain electrons to fill up their electron shell and become a negative charge.
