- directly stimulates lacrimal tissue

- need to be VERY careful and actually just put a drop into food. if you give too much -> SLUDGE and death
Topical anesthetics
Proparacaine (Alcaine)
- must put in fridge after opening
- used as a rapid analgesic
Tetracaine
- don't have to refrigerate
Adjunct therapies

Serum
- some bacteria contain stomalysins (enzymes that melt the cornea) so serum contains large proteins that inhibit the action of these enzymes
- can use serum from another animal/species
Dehydrating Agents
5% Hypertonic saline
- used to dehydrate the cornea
- does not affect IOP
Tear Supplements (lubricants)
- high viscosity = don't have to apply too often
- ideally contains hyaluronic acid
