"I'm so pale"
-
iron cycle
1- absorption
-
Fe 3+ from vegetables will get oxidized by ferric oxidase when passing by duodenal cytochrome B then enter the cell by divelant metal transporter 1
-
3- transport
-
in order to go to blood stream, Fe 2+ will pass by ferroprotin 1 and get oxidized into Fe 3+ form by hephastin in order to get transported to tissues
ferritin (Fe 3+ form) will go to H-rich ferritin area in heart for rapid use and release and to L-rich area to liver and spleen for long-term storage
ferritin can also be stored in macrophages in form of hemosiderin to clear damaged RBC and take iron from it to store it
4- regulation
if liver sensed high level of iron it will release hepcidin (to act on ferroprotin 1 and divalent metal transporter 1) and inhibit iron absorption or transportation
