EMPHATISE
-
INTERVIEWING
Always prepare questions that you will ask the target. When evoking stories from audience, always ask "Why?" to further understand them.
Ask open-ended questions as this will make the conversation more interesting for you and the audience
-
When interviewing, talk to interviewee like as if it is a normal conversation
Matching their body language, asking in a polite tone and expressing sincere interests help you understand your target audience and builds rapport
EMPATHY IMMERSION
Try to understand the needs of target user in their perspective. Attempt to emulate the problems that they face daily.
DEFINE
What is the Define stage?
To craft a meaningful and actionable problem statement through a POV. Using facts that you have gained and connecting them to shed light on needs and wants
Why Define?
It helps us determine the problem that we seek to address. By going through the target user's POV, we will be able to discover factors that we can leverage to tackle the design challenge.
How to Define?
A good POV is one that:
- Provides focus and frames the problem
- Informs criteria for evaluating competing ideas
- Provide a clear common direction so that your team can make decisions independently in parallel
- Specific, not broad. Crafting a narrowly focused problem statement tends to yield solutions that are greater quantity and higher quality when you are generating ideas
- Inspires your own team
-
PROTOTYPE
Why Prototype?
- To ideate and problem-solve
- To communicate
- To start a conversation
- To test possibilities
- To manage the solution-building process
- To fail quickly and cheaply
How to prototype?
- Start building
- Don't spend too long on one prototype
- Identify a variable (A prototype should answer a particular question when tested)
- Build with the user in mind
What is Prototype Stage?
- The stage is about transiting ideas and explorations from our head into the physical world. Prototypes are successful when anyone can experience and interact with them. This will help you drive deeper empathy and create successful solutions.
-
IDEATE
What is Ideate stage?
A stage where you focus on generating ideas. Generating a large amount of ideas instead of focusing on quality. This represents a process of diverging in terms of concepts and outcomes.
Why Ideate?
This is the stage between identifying problems to creating solutions for users. Ideation is about quantity to have the widest range of ideas we could select. Through user testing and feedback, we will determine the best solution later on
How to Ideate?
- Brainstorming
- Sketch-storming
- Body-storming
- Mind-mapping
- Prototyping
TEST
How to test?
- Show, don't tell
- Have them talk through their experiences
- Actively observe
- Follow up with questions
Why Testing?
- To make iterations and refine our prototype
- We can observe how the user reacts to the prototype
- It helps us determine if our prototype meets the user needs, allowing us to refine our point of vie or reframe the problem
What is Test Stage?
- A stage where you have the change to get feedback, polish solutions to improve them and to learn more about your target users.
