Passive: past simple

When we don't know who is doing the action, or when it's not important: An omelette is made with eggs.

When it's important to know who does the action in the passive, we use by: The painting Guernica was painted by Pablo Picasso.
We can use a preposition to explain where or when something is done: The Beatles' first album was recorded in London.
Passive
The subject of the verb is the object or thing that is affected by the action. The subject of a passive has the same meaning as the object of an active verb.

Also, we use passive sentences when we don't know the subject.

Finally, we often use it when or what does the action is not the focus of the sentence.

Active
Has a subject and a verb. The subject is who does the action of the verb. Some of them, also have an object.
