theories on population and resources
thomas malthus
It is a pessimistic approach to the relation between population and resources
It states that population growth will surpass the amount of resources (specially food)
as a result population growth will stop by either famine or wars (this is called the malthusian catastrophe)
Malthus's predictions were incorrect as they came before much of the technological developments which have enabled food supply to be increased
Neo Malthusians
people with this theory think
Decline in fertile land
fodd prices increase
used most agricultural land
population continues to increase
Neo-Malthusians argue that population control is essential to avoid Malthusian catastrophe

It implies that new technologies will be discovered to maintain humanity
more efficient resources will be discovered
renewable resources will overtake non-renewable resources
