1800: China banned the production and importation of
opium.
1813: Chinese government outlawed the smoking of opium and imposed a punishment of 100 beatings.

-In the second opium war a weakened China fought Great Britain and France but China lost. Also, the Chinese government had to just watch with no choice as the British sold more opium to the Chinese.
