Immune System - Coggle Diagram
Innate (Non-Specific) Immune Defenses: protect the body against any pathogen, regardless of the pathogen's identity: also known as non-specific immunity: includes surface barriers & internal defenses
-
-
Inflammation: nonspecific response to any tissue damage (ex. physical trauma, intense heat, or infection)
-
Proteins
Interferons: released by cells infected with the virus; triggers nearby cells to make a protein that helps them to resist viral infection
Complement Proteins: a group of proteins that circulate in the blood and become active when they encounter pathogens, killing them by puncturing their cell membranes
-
-
Skin: forms a keratinized, layered physical barrier that blocks most pathogens
Mucous Membranes: line all body cavities open to the exterior (digestive, reproductive, urinary, and respiratory tracts)
Adaptive (Specific) Immune Defenses: once the pathogen has entered the body; a response specifically aimed at that pathogen; also known as specific immunity
