How did Hungary affect World War II and how were they affected by it?
Economic Contributions
Hungary exported goods all around the world during the second World War
The main export of Hungary during World War II was manganese-ore. This is a hard, brittle, silvery metal. It is often combined with iron.
Another big export of Hungary during WW2 was bauxite.
Military Campaigns
Hungary started off going kind of back and forth between victory and defeat.
Most of the battles Hungary was in was against the Soviet Union. Hungary lost 10 battles in a row, leading to the war's end.
Hungary also fought against other ally countries like the United States, but most of the battles were in and against the Soviet Union
Technological Advances
The absolute, #1 technological advance in Hungary was the advancement of the Radar.
It seemed like the Allies all had the radar. But for the Axis Powers it was different... Hungary was the only Axis country that had a fully advanced radar with pin point accuracy.
Humanitarian Aid Efforts
Hungary let lots of Jews into Budapest during the holocaust. This is because the refugees needed somewhere to go because if they didnt leave Germany they may get killed.
Tons of Jews were deported from Germany and they would be homeless so Hungary gave them somewhere to go.
Alliances and Diplomacy
The Alliances of Hungary during World War 2 were as follows...
Germany
Italy
Japan
Romania
Slovakia
Bulgaria
Croatia
Hungary was part of the Axis Powers (which lost to the allies)
Internment and Refugees
Budapest was home to a lot of the Hungarian Jews of that day
When Germany took control of Hungary lots of Jews were evicted from their homes and put into internment camps.
By July of 1944, Budapest was pretty much the only place in Hungary that still had Jews in it because there were so so many of them.
Medical and Scientific Contributions
László József Bíró
László József Bíró created the ball point pen. The ball point pen was a very important invention at the time because it was easier for people to write things down easier, faster, and more accessibly
Hungary also had designed tanks that were absolutely spectacular. The special kind of tank they created inflicted lots of damage on Soviet tanks.
Soviet tanks are thought to be the best of the best at that time.
