Employees

Employers

Can be denied a job due to their health and physical limitations, resulting in a declined wage.

If offered a position, they're likely to be placed in lower status jobs since their weight-management can affect their energy levels and cognitive functions that negatively impact productivity in the workplace.

Have to undergo fitness tests for employers to determine whether they're physically capable of performing tasks.

Target these employees to intentionally make them feel as if the current job holding is their only outlet.

Be cautious of hiring obese employees because they feel it may result in higher health care rates compared to other employees.

Lower the self-esteem of their employees who struggle with weight.

  • Education is called the Great Equalizer. The more education people have access to quality education, the more equal a society gets.
  • Access to education varies by class because public schools in the US are funded mainly at the local level, so kids who grow up in affluent neighborhoods tend to have access to better schools because those communities provide more funding. Along with good computers, teachers, classes, and extracurricular.

Opposing religious beliefs can cause disagreements, tension, and conflict among employees. This leads to a hostile and unproductive workplace.

Some jobs allow their employees to live out their faith in the workplace; however, that person cannot force other co-workers to do by their specific religion or make them feel wrong for not abiding by their religions rules.

Thoughts?

After reviewing this unit, it makes me realize just how much social class impacts our daily lives and how the area or surroundings someone grows up in, can determine how people think or behave. Down to the music, beliefs, and expectations out of life, all revolve around one’s social class. It almost seems as if the children inherit whichever life their parents and grandparents were raised in. Which is unfortunate because at some point, they'll have to buck on the "normal" and create a different life or outcome for themselves and generations that follow.
