Literacy Improvement Group (LIG) 2023/24 Initial Aims and Targets
Works towards and ultimately achieve a bronze accreditation of the Reading Schools Initiative by June 2024.
Agree on an action plan
Give each member specific roles to work towards.
Monthly meetings to 'check-in' regarding progress (First Tuesday of each month)
Action Plan will be broken up into sections to help us evaulate progress throughout the year.
Evaluate the Reading Schools Programme in June 2024 - Has it been a sucess? Key questions we will possibly need to consider:
We can determine success by achieving the Bronze accreditation - showing that we were ultimately successful in regards to the Reading Schools initiative.
If we ultimately agree the Reading Schools programme was of benefit, are we going to work towards the Silver award in future?
Challenge Questions for us regarding success and sustainability, have we noticed a shift in culture towards reading? How will we measure this? How will we develop this further?
Continue to develop the LIG by:
Providing opportunites for CPD
Ensuring all members of the group have an active role
Promoting teachers as leaders
Evaluating the effectiveness and success of the LIG by looking again at the groups readiness for change and capacity to improve.
Compare this to my intial analysis from the beginning.
Aim to expand the LIG by the end of the academic year through the recruitment of both pupils and staff.
If our core mission is to place literacy at the heart of our pupils curriculum, then they need to be actively involved in this.
Literacy Ambassadors - and/or Reading Ambassadors as part of the Reading Schools Initiative
Providing literacy CPD to wider staff members after evaluating the CPD session I will run this year.
Reading competitions for pupils to 1. Help engage them with reading & 2. Start to get interest from potential future Reading Ambassadors.
To focus our work on achieving the core vision co-created by our group.
"To help close the attainment gap by equipping every student with the lifelong knowledge and skills they need. How? By placing literacy at the heart of their curriculum.”
