  - - - There is an element of this within the Rwandan Genocide, as divides created in the colonial period worsened tensions

        "It had to be this way", admitting to the situation, but not their responsibility. Victim and situation are blamed
- - - - Actions of crime are normalised, leading the individual perpetrators to see it as acceptable. Labels crimes as "Crimes of Obedience"
    - - Some people are predisposed to obey authority figures without question. This defence was often used with regards to Nazi war criminals.
    - - Adorno - Authorisation, People are given orders, so they commit crimes
      - Green + Ward - Routinisation, crime is normal, so they partake in it
      - Dehumanisation - Opponents are seen as less than human so they commit crimes against them
  - - - He likened the holocaust to a "factory", where the product was mass murder. He argues these factors allowed it to take place. But it ignores the racist ideology that formed large part of it. Additionally, other genocides don't necessarily include these factors.
