Transport and Journeys
Types of transport:
-
Aeroplanes
They fly very fast in the sky and can take you to different countries. They can do very long journeys for hours and can hold up to 300 people at a time.
Bicycles
They go faster than walking. You can use them for journeys in your local area: to church, school or to the park. Usually for 1 person but there are bikes for 2 people together.
Boats
They swim on the water very slowly. Some smaller boats, like speedboats can go very fast. Smaller boats can hold a family group size. Bigger boats called cruise ships can hold hundreds of people and go to different countries.
Cars
Cars can be very fast. They can hold 4 or 5 people. You can use them for short journeys to the shop or on long journeys to other countries.
Buses
Use buses to go on short journeys in the local area. They can hold about 40 people. Buses than go on long jouneys are called coaches.
Lorries
Lorries are used to move big deliveries from the warehouse to a supermarket. They have lots of shopping on board but only 1 or 2 people.
Vans
Vans take small deliveries from the shop to your house. They have 1 person but lots of stuff inside.
Trains
Trains go very fast. They can be small but made bigger by adding more carridges. The train to London has 10 carriages. They can hold hundreds of people.

Older transport
Horse and carts
A long time ago, people used to use horse and carts to get around. They were not safe as the horse could try to run away. They also couldn't go as fast as a car. Transport is safer today because we have seat belts.
