HOMEOSTASIS - Coggle Diagram
HOMEOSTASIS
Keeping the internal environment constant
conditions inside an organism
LIVING PROCESSES DEPEND ON ENZIMES
enzymes work best in specific conditions such as those of temperature and pH
ENZYMES = PROTEINS- DENATURATED BY HEAT
OSMOTIC EQUILIBRIUM
concentration of the blood and tissue fluids
CONCENTRATION OF GLUCOSE
energy for the cells
feedback loop
The
SKIN
,
KIDNEYS, LIVER, ENDOCRINE SYSTEM and NERVOUS SYSTEM
all play a part in HOMESTASIS
CONTROL OF BODY TEMPERATURE
SKIN (top layer = epidermis, lower layer = dermis)
TOO COLD
Erector muscles contract = raised hairs = warm air next to the skin = insulation
TOO HOT
Erector muscles relax = laying hairs = less air next to the skin = heat dispersion
HYPOTHALAMUS
thermostat senses temperatures (inside sense blood, outside sense air and water)
if above or below 37°C sends electrical signal through neurons to temperature regulating parts
VASODILATION AND VASOCONTRACTION
TOO HOT
blood vessels in the skin dilate
more blood near the surface
HEAT DISPERSION
CIRCULATING BLOOD COOLING
more blood activates sweat glands
sweat extracted from the blood evaporates on the skin
When the sweat evaporates, it takes heat from the body and cools it down
TOO COLD
blood vessels in the skin constrict
less blood near the surface
LESS HEAT DISPERSION
