Chemical changes - Coggle Diagram
Chemical changes
Chemical change
a change where new substances are formed
cannot be easily reversed
Chemical changes can occur through
mixing
heating
interaction with oxygen
exposure to light
Physical change
a change where no new substances are formed
can be reversed using
separation techniques
pH scale
can use to measure how acidic or alkaline a solution is
pH values lesser than 7 is acidic
pH values more than 7 are alkaline
Indicators
can be used to check the presence for acid or alkaline since it changes colour
Different types of chemical changes
Neutralisation
occurs when an acid is mixed with alkali
oxidation
occurs when a substance gains oxygen
Combustion
occurs when a substance is heated in the presence of oxygen to form new substances
Thermal decomposition
occurs when a substance breaks down into two or more simpler substances upon heating
