Penicillin
-
When a bacteria grows, it secretes enzymes called autolysins which make holes in the cell wall and allow wall expansion
Penicillin inhibits enzymes which make crosslinks, so no more crosslinks are formed, but holes still get punched
-
Does not affect human cells or viruses, as they do not have cell walls
