To prove he meant this, he sent an invasion of 500,000 troops from warsaw pact countries into Czechoslovakia in August 1968

Background
Czechoslovakia had been a communist country, controlled by Moscow since the end of WW2
In 1968, the Czech people attempted to gain some control over their lives and reform the system to create 'Socialism with a human face'
This attempt lasted four months, until it was crushed by the Soviet army
