Preparation
Levees built to prevent waterways overflowing. Authorised in 1965 after Hurricane Betsy. Built by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Report of Crops (2006) concluded insufficient funding, information and poor construction left flood system vulnerable
Prediction
Storm developed on 23rd Aug. Used satellites and computer simulation to predict it hitting the coasts of Mississippi and Louisiana. Advance waring in force by 26th Aug. Mayor of New Orleans ordered evacuation on 28th Aug.
