Hiring Practices Code of Conduct
Job Description
Outline responsibilities and duties accurately in the job description.
Outline any physical demands or working conditions.
State any pre-employment testing which may be required.
Job description should be written based upon what the position needs to accomplish and not to fit a person and/or their qualifications to support a fair and equitable search.
Qualifications
Identify the minimum qualifications needs to the position.
Strictly review resumes to determine truly qualified candidates.
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered.
Interviews
Conduct fair and impartial searches and interviews.
Select unbiased members to serve on interview teams.
Do not make prejudiced assumptions from the candidate's resumes.
Do not share applicant's names with people other than those on the interview teams.
Do not accept unsolicited information regarding applicants.
Interview questions must focus on the qualifications of the applicants as it pertains to the job description and not personal information of the candidate.
Reference Checks
When candidate chosen, always check references.
If a requirement, confirm the degree.
If possible, review past performance documents for performance and/or red flags.
Hiring
Be able to substantiate the recommended candidate and that they are the best choice.
Offer a fair and reasonable salary based upon qualifications and experience.
Complete the hiring process in a reasonable time frame.
Onboarding
Creative a positive work environment.
Make the new employee feel welcome.
Provides adequate instructions, guidance and materials to ensure the new employee's success.
