environmental sustainability
definition: responsible use and conservation of natural resources to conserve for future generation
ways to contribute
reduce deforestation
deforestation : cutting down trees and vegetation for agriculture of land purposes
negative impacts to the environment: cutting down trees causes less trees to absorb carbon dioxide from the environment, increasing the amount of greenhouse gases in the environment, additionally by cutting down trees, the co2 stored in trees will be released enhancing the greenhouse effect, contributing to global warming
for instance, Singapore has been planting vegetation on roof tops of HDB flats and Bus stops, these vegetation can be harvested and consumed by residents
reduce carbon emissons
increase vegetation and trees; plant more trees
promote the use of environmentally friendly ways to transport around :
public transport is a more environmentally friendly way to transport around, recently in Singapore, the new busses are invented to be eco friendly, instead os using fuels, it is made to be electric , conserving the use of fossil fuels and reduces carbon emmisons
biking, cycling not only helps people to get exercise in their daily lifes, but its a way of transporting that does not require fossil fuels , its a sustainable way of getting around
Why?
cars that rely on fuels for operation produces tons of carbon emisson ,and additionally, it requires the burning of fossil fuels, contributing to more carbon emmisons and the use of natural resources
reduce,reuse,recycle
use of plastic
leads to pollution
land pollution
Plastic waste takes up alot of space ,for instance , in Singapore, we are running out of space for waste .Semakau Landfill may not be able to contain the waste of future generations.
air pollution
plastic takes up alot of space, plastic has to be burnt before disposing it into a landfill ,the burning of plastics releases alot of carbon dioxide, enhancing the greenhouse effect
