Studies have shown that a substantial amount of male offspring with criminal convictions had biological parents with criminal convictions
Twin studies
Monozygotic twins are identical and Dizygotic twins are non identical
Studies conducted by Lange found that a greater proportion of MZ twins were more likley to demonstrate criminal behaviour
Christiansen found that male twins were more likely to share criminal characteristics compared to female twins
Individualistic theories
Social learning theory
1963 BOBO doll experiment
Bandura found that children's behaviour both positive and negative is learned through observations of role models such as parents
These observations tend to come from role models such as parents, teacher and family
Psychodynamic theory - Freud
The psyche is made up from: ID which is privative and wants gratification, EGO which looks for logic and rationality and SUPER EGO which is the conscience
Humans develop there psyche from being ID centered to develop an EGO
Failure to develop an EGO will lead to criminality
