How did the author build tension in chapters 12 - 20 whilst Tilly and Oliver were missing?
Tilly, distressed dashes out of the house, forgetting to lock the door, running to the river.
Tilly has time at the river to think about what she has done, she feels a mixture of sadness, worry and regret.
Tilly errupts into a range, she feels ignored by mum and blames her for all the change, in her fury she throws a mug at the wall, hurting Aunt Janine.
Tilly decides to return home whilst she is walking back, she hears a helicopter, she sees the red and blue lights of police cars out the front of her home. Tilly realises that Oliver is missing.
Tilly can't find mum or Oliver and begins to search the house, she finds her door ajar and her precious aqua journal destroyed.
Tilly returns home, Mum and Aunt Janine are relieved but also worried to tears because of Oliver's dissapearance. The police are searching for Oliver.
Tilly, Mum and Aunt Janine are beside themselves with worry when they overhear a police officer requesting the dive team to search the bottom of the river for Oliver.
Tilly creates a new solution, use the rubbish truck to draw Oliver out, but it takes time and we the audience are waiting just like Tilly, Mum and Aunt Janine, the tensions builds as we wait, just like the characters until Oliver returns home and the joyous reunion happens.
What was the main obstacle in the story
The move from a country town to Townsville, leaving behind the community and home they knew (even Tilly's Neon Tetras)
Tilly and Oliver went missing
Oliver has Autism and this creates problems when he has meltdowns e.g. when Oliver destroys Tilly's precious aqua journal
Mum loses her job
Oliver is sensitive to change e.g. when Mum dyes her hair.
