1) June 1950: N.K. army invaded the South

Captured Seoul

North - better trained and better weapons (from USSR)

US concerned about 'Domino effect'

Appealed to UN for support helping S.K

3) July 1950: 1st UN troops arrive in S.K

2) S.K pushed south to Pusan

4) N.K got pushed North again

They were running out of supplies

The UN had an air force

Battle of Inchon (15th Sept 1950)

Organised by MacArthur

40,000 UN troops

6,500 North Korean troops (outnumbered)

Wasn't an obvious target, so not defended heavily

Surprise attack

Allowed UN to recapture Seoul

UN Campaign in North Korea (Sept-Oct 1950)

Korea was divided along 38th parallel again

27th Sept: UN pushes into North

Felt confident after B. of Inchon

Didn't think China would get involved

19th Oct: UN troops capture Pyongyang
