-Princes and other traditional rulers thus became an important collaborating class social, religious and cultural matters where left in their hands

-cheif priority was building railways. In 1857 there was only 288 miles of railway . By 1890 there was nearly 20,000 miles of track
-progress in other places including irrigation projects ,road building and extension of telegraphic and postal services
-New network of communication eased ronic famine situation and strengthened B. military hold
British administration
-Indias who payed for Raj's adminstrationand army through taxes had no say on how India should be run
-by 1890* sum of 1,500 B administrates ruled 250 million Indians
-Most administrators had been educated in public schools which inculated certain qualities (courage, self-assurance , honesty and self sacrifice )
-worked tiredlessly to revent famine, build railways and secure law and order
-Lived apart from Indians:- all white clubs provided with a social life-support system
