      - the text of the decree was inscribed, and they asked the envoys to emphasise that of there were any additional honours for the emperor, they would institute them immediately
      - must be from between 27 and 11BC, as they refer to him as Augustus, but also mention his sister, Octavia, who died in 11BC
      - they also asked a copy be put in the house of Augustus, showing that they want to be remembered for their loyalty - cult is not actually about belief
      - they ask that heralds are sent to the main ports of the Med - Antioch, Brundisium, Messalia, Tarraco, Actium - advertising the games and contests held in mytilene. A huge level of communication and unity across empire, that would bolster mytilene with increased trade, visitors, and identity
    - - leading members of communities in Gaul set up inscriptions in honour of hybrid deities like Nemausus Augustus or Bormana Augusta
      - (Nemausus was a Gallic god, and also the ancient name for what we now called Nimes)
      - also in Nimes a temple to Augustus and Roma was built
      - this blending of gods represents the capacity to respond to conquest
