        It was found that participants would perform worse with acoustically similar words.
        
        These words would get merged together in STM.
        
        Therefore it can be concluded that information is stored acoustically in STM.

        It was found that participants would perform worse with semantically similar words.
        
        These words would get merged in LTM.
        
        Therefore it can be concluded that information is stored semantically in LTM.
