The implementation of lockdown drills in schools
Some schools do not go out of their way to make sure students understand that they are safe and that there is not a real threat on campus
Implementation could be traumatizing to students - making them more scared and less likely to pay attention to what they are supposed to do in a real situation
Often times there is not a followup to make sure students are okay
Students are not told about them beforehand, which does not give them time to mentally prepare (yes, not telling them is part of it because students will not know when a real one is taking place, but where is the line drawn for the realisticness of the drill?).
Mandated uniforms in schools
The intent is to prevent kids from being able to tell apart whose family is wealthy or not (by brands/options for clothing) but cleanliness and lack of materials do that anyway plus schools do not often mandate shoe or jacket choices
Are the kids (assuming they are younger) the ones who care about brands or is it the parents?
Are kids able to express themselves when they are forced to wear the same five shirts and jeans?
Kids cannot develop a sense of style if they wear uniforms from Kindergarten to High school or even Middle school.
Should technology be allowed in the (younger kids) classroom?
Smart watches? Phones? Tablets?
Parent involvement in their children's education
Could teachers hold events during times that more parents would be able to attend?
What are ways that teachers can increase parent involvement when the parent is disinterested?
Parent Teacher Confrences
Discussions about negatives and positives
What are ways to keep parents interested in the conversation when the teacher needs help with child's behavior?
When should kids be introduced to social media?
What age should they have it?
What should be censored?
Should social media be talked about more in schools?
What age?
Schools do not prepare students for life after high school graduation
There are no classes that teach about applying for jobs, interviews, taxes, budgeting, etc.
Students are unprepared for the real world and are left to figure it out on their own if they do not have family
How is this helping future generations succeed?
Solutions could be making students take a finance class, making students take a college prep class, making students take a class on how to get a job and the whole process
It could even be one class that incorporates everything, this will provide students with a teacher they can ask questions to
This could be incorporated once a week as an extra course like every Wednesday for 30 minutes (how my school did it except we never actually learned anything)
Standardized testing
Students have test anxiety
high stress envirnoment
not a great demonstration of knowledge
colleges used to rely heavily on scores
