The Afar people lived in a region often called as "AFAR TRIANGLE" a large part of this desert is made up of Danakil Desert one of the earth's most hottest, driest and most inhospitable spot with little vegetation and limited wildlife OR Horn of Africa
The speak AFAR language known as (Qafar Af) as they belong to the Eastern Cushite group. The language uses Roman Alphabet and follows the subject verb structure.
The Afar began to convert to Islam in the 10th century after contacts with Arabs so their main religion is Islam, but very few follow Christanity.
Men wear SANAFIL (undyed waist cloth), a JILE or curved sword and dangle it from their belt. Women wear SANAFIL (dyed or multicolored waist band), black headscarf called SHASH or MUSHAL.
MEN- They are pastoralists, generally raising camels but also tending to goats, sheeps and cattles. *
WOMEN - They look after the camp, build houses and beds, keep camp clean and take care of children
They lead a nomadic lifestyle moving from highlands to lowlands depending on the flood seasons. They are usually found to be malnourished since there are few natural resources like water available
They like to play their traditional game call KWOSSO. They engage themselves in various skills like wood and metal working to produce tools and instruments like jile, weaving, pottery and tanning.Some engage themselves in dance and music.

The Afar are ethnic group who reside principally in the Horn Of Africa in the countries of Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti whose traditional territories border both Red Sea and Gulf Of Aden. The name Afar means "The First" or "The Best"
