This review examines autism stigma, highlighting its origins, impacts, and interventions. A theoretical model illustrates how public understanding of autism and perceptions of visible traits contribute to stigma. Factors like contact with autistic individuals, cultural beliefs, gender, and diagnostic disclosure moderate stigma. Stigma diminishes well-being and encourages camouflaging behaviors, affecting both autistic individuals and caregivers. Recommendations include creating autism-friendly spaces, promoting positive media representations, educating the public and professionals, and fostering inclusivity. Future research should prioritize understanding and reducing autism stigma, with active involvement from the autistic community to improve outcomes and promote acceptance.
